The ASUS F1 Full HD LED projector uses a DLP display technology, which means that it should be able to provide a sharp image, have a good response time and be able to display 3D video. The projector is rated to deliver a maximum light output of 1,200 lumens with a contrast ratio of 3,500:1. ASUS says that its RGB LED light source can last for a maximum of 30000 hours, which is about 3 and a half years of continuous use. That means that it can last for up to 20 years if you use it for about 4 hours every day.

Using the ASUS F1 Full HD LED projector

The first thing we noticed when we took the ASUS F1 Full HD LED projector out of its box, was that it is not that big and that we like its design. Unlike other projectors, this one has sharp edges and a shape that feels like it was inspired by the Republic of Gamers lineup. It even has AURA RGB through two lines of light underneath it. 🙂

We immediately mounted it in the living room. When we did that, we found that the ASUS F1 Full HD LED projector can be placed on a table as well as hanging on the ceiling. It was easier for us to put it on the table but, because the coffee table we used was only knee-high, we had to adjust the projector's position. That's when we appreciated the projector's supporting stand that comes out of its base, and which can be set to two different heights.

If you connect an HDMI cable or a VGA cable that delivers some video input, the projector automatically detects it and starts to display the image coming through that cable. Otherwise, you must select the input that you want to use. We also made a wireless projection from a nearby Windows 10 computer and Android device.

We also liked the fact that the ASUS F1 Full HD LED projector automatically adjusts its focus. You do not have to manually adjust the lens so that it focuses correctly on the projection surface and makes the image as sharp as possible. ASUS F1 does that on its own, using a special built-in camera that you can see on it, right next to the lens. And, thanks to it, the ASUS F1 Full HD LED projector can also automatically adjust the horizontal and vertical keystone. It doesn't get any easier than that!

The projector has only four buttons on its back, which you can use to power the device, select the video input, adjust the keystone and navigate through its menus. Additionally, you also get a stylish remote control with more buttons. Using either means of control is easy and quick, although the projector does not respond as quickly as a TV or monitor would.

There are plenty of settings and options to play with, and you should configure the projector as soon as possible so that it works just the way you like it. At first, we just wanted to see how it did if we used it as a secondary screen with a Windows 10 laptop, when projecting wirelessly. It did an excellent job, and configuring it was fast and easy. However, you can't watch movies this way, as the stuttering is noticeable.

What we were most curious about was what the projector could do for gaming. In that case, wireless projection can't work because the lag is too high. So, we used an HDMI cable to connect the projector to our gaming laptop. For your information, the ASUS F1 Full HD LED projector can use HDMI to display video at Full HD and a 60 Hz refresh rate, but it can also display video in 720p at 120 Hz refresh rate. This is more than just suitable for playing games. We ran League of Legends and The Witcher 3 - Wild Hunt, both set at 720p resolution (1280 x 720 pixels), and we were able to play both of them without any lag or motion blur, on our living-room wall! 🙂

Finally, a few words about the RGB lighting system found on the ASUS F1. It's something that some users want to have on all their devices and although it may sound funny to have RGB lighting effects on a projector, here we are nonetheless. 🙂 The ASUS F1 has two fine lines of light underneath it, which give a nice effect on the table on which you place the projector. You can control the lighting effects from the projector's menu, in the System - AURA RGB category, and you can choose to use a Rainbow, Color Cycle, Static, Breathing, or Strobing effect.
