The Windows Modules Installer Worker or WMIW or TiWorker.exe checks for new updates from the Windows server and installs them on your computer system.So this process may create a system restore point before installing Windows Updates.

Let’s take a look at a typical scenario where you can encounter this issue.

You start Windows in Audit mode. In the system event log, you find the following event entered:

The start type of the Windows Modules Installer service was changed from On-demand start to Auto start.

You now manually turn on system protection as follows:

Select System Protection > Configure > Restore settings > Turn on system protection, and then select Apply.

In this scenario, a Windows Modules Installer restore point appears.

But, if you try to restore the system to this restore point, the system restore process fails.

Additionally, when you start the computer to out-of-box experience (OOBE) status, the computer cannot start, and it generates a Something went wrong error message.
